Frequently Asked Questions
What is For the Love of Tartan™?
For the Love of Tartan™ is a private correspondence club for Americans and Scots drawn to letters, heritage, friendship, cultural exchange, and meaningful connection across the water.
It was created for people who want something slower than a dating app and more intentional than a public Facebook group.
What is The Tartan Letter Club™?
The Tartan Letter Club™ is the private member room within For the Love of Tartan™.
Founding Members receive access to private member letters, correspondence prompts, member orientation, house rules, member profiles, and the private room as the circle opens carefully.
Moderated introductions are available as the founding circle grows.
Is this a dating app?
No.
For the Love of Tartan™ is not a dating app, swiping app, matchmaking marketplace, or public personals board.
That said, members may be open to different kinds of meaningful connection, including friendship, correspondence, cultural exchange, heritage conversation, or romance-open connection.
The difference is pace and posture.
This is a correspondence club first. Connection is allowed to move slowly, respectfully, and without pressure.
Is romance allowed?
Romance-open connection is allowed, but romantic pressure is not.
A member may indicate that they are open to meaningful connection that could become romantic someday. That does not mean they are available to be pursued, pressured, rushed, sexualized, or treated like a dating-app match.
A kind answer is not a romantic promise.
A slow reply is not an invitation to push harder.
Who can join?
The club is designed primarily for Americans and Scots, but people elsewhere may apply if they are sincerely drawn to the purpose of the room.
All members must be 18 or older.
Applications are reviewed before membership invitations are sent.
Why is there an application?
The application protects the room.
Public groups and comment sections can become noisy, uncomfortable, or unsafe very quickly. For the Love of Tartan™ was created to offer something more intentional.
The application helps us understand who is entering, what kind of connection they are seeking, and whether they understand the house rules.
Do I pay before being approved?
No.
The intended process is:
Apply first.
Applications are reviewed.
Approved applicants receive a private Founding Membership invitation.
After joining, members receive access to the private member experience.
What happens after I become a Founding Member?
Founding Membership begins immediately.
After joining, you will receive access to private member materials, including orientation, house rules, correspondence prompts, and the private member room as it opens.
You may also be asked to complete a Member Correspondence Profile so future prompts, member spaces, and moderated introductions can be shaped thoughtfully.
What is the private member room?
The private member room is the members-only space for The Tartan Letter Club™.
It includes areas for orientation, guided introductions, correspondence prompts, Scotland/America conversations, and safety information.
It is not a free-for-all message board.
The room is designed to move slowly and respectfully.
Can members message each other directly?
Direct access may be limited or staged, especially during the founding season.
The purpose is not to recreate the chaos of random DMs. The purpose is to build a safer room for thoughtful connection.
Moderated introductions and member communication will open carefully as the circle grows.
Do members have public profiles?
Members may have profiles inside the private member room if that feature is enabled.
Profile information is intended for the private member space only, not for public browsing.
The club is not built around swiping, ranking, or judging people by photos.
Do I have to upload a profile picture?
A profile photo may be optional but encouraged.
If requested, it helps support trust, safety, and future moderated introductions.
Profile photos are not used for public dating-app-style browsing or swiping.
Can other members see my profile picture?
Only if profile visibility is enabled inside the private member room or if you consent to having it shared as part of a moderated introduction.
Photos submitted through private intake forms are used for internal review and safety purposes unless otherwise stated.

This room is meant to be intentional, not coercive.
Why “Some threads cross oceans”?
Because some connections begin long before they make practical sense.
A place, a name, a story, a coastline, a letter, a conversation, a shared curiosity — sometimes the thread is already there.
For the Love of Tartan™ simply gives it a room.
